How to Measure Hats for Packaging: Crown, Brim and Box Fit by Hat Style

Hat sizing and hat-box sizing are not the same thing. Learn how to measure the actual crown, brim, decorations and packed profile of caps, fedoras, cowboy hats, bucket hats and other headwear before choosing packaging dimensions.

Hat size tells you whether a hat fits a person's head. It does not tell you what size packaging the hat needs.

A baseball cap, fedora, cowboy hat, bucket hat and wide-brim fashion hat can all have similar wearer sizes while requiring completely different packaging dimensions.

For packaging, the measurements that matter are the physical shape of the finished hat: its widest point, crown height, brim profile, decorations and the way it will actually sit inside the box.
